“(Wo)man Up” Series: Orphan Black

10th of August, 2017

Orphan Black all - color sentence (2)

Eurythmics once sang along with Aretha Franklin those lines: Sisters are doing it for themselves. Standing on their own two feet. And ringing on their own bells. There are no better words to describe “clones-sisters” from Orphan Black – BBC America production created by Graeme Manson and John Fawcett. The viewers will have a pleasure (or sadness and pleasure, because production is one of the best ones) to see the last, finale episode Saturday, at 10 on BBC America channel. That is why Orphan Black will do the honour to begin new (Wo)man Up Series, where I write about women in tv shows and movies (once a week – different production).

Orphan Black is, without doubt, one of the best, the smartest, the most dynamic production people have ever seen. There is action, mystery and incredible chemistry between characters. All those qualities together gave me a thrill I never felt before. Tatiana Maslany, the main actress playing ALL(sic!) clones, is one of the most talented artist entertainment industry had ever seen – no doubt! She played almost 30 or more clones in the show. With the help of Katherine Alexandre – her double stunt – she created a group of amazing, independent, sometimes funny women who are not afraid to stand up and fight for their rights even if it means sacrifise. Oh, there was a lot of sacrifise. Fifth finale season gave fans one of the most brutnal clone death – MK, quiet clone, Helsinki survivor who was helping others. After the episode, Internet literally broke. People were grieving after MK’s death. That only proves how much of a talent Maslany really is: I try to get roles that challenge me in what I can do and who I think I can portray. For me, it’s about creating characters with really fascinating stories, because that’s what I like to watch on TV, said Maslany in one of many interviews.  Every one of Tatiana’s characters had beautiful, often sad story and the acress showed that without any fail.

Throughout all five seasons, the clones, which the audience had the best chance to get to meet Sarah Manning, Cosima Niehaus, Alison Hendrix, Helena and Rachel Duncan. Each of them, together, and also separately have shown that feminine solidarity is one of the most powerful things in the world. Each one is different, has a different way of being, different experiences – Sarah Manning is lost woman with daughter who wants to find her way in life, Cosima Niehaus is a smart scientist, trying to find a love she deserves. Alison Hendrix is not-so-typical soccer mom of two and suspects her husband is her monitor.  Helena is an Ukrainian orphan, Sarah’s real twin, trained to kill others. In her example, you can observe how difficult it is to free yourself from the mental abuse. Helena was raised by Prolethians, the group of dangerous people. Trained, tortured, raised without love, the character is a perfect example of a person, of a woman who survived and wants a change of her life.

bad siblings

Rachel Duncan is a contrast of her sisters. Raised by Neolutionists – the creators of clones, she was being prepared to take over responsibilities of her guardian, Aldous. In many moments, Rachel resembles Helena. Although both women were raised differently, there is a certain kind of abuse that, in both cases, is similar. But the two characters show that you can get out of the oppression and after a lot of hard work, try to live normally.

Although sisters and Rachel Duncan are on opposite sides, there is day when they all have to unite to defend even more powerful villain – the founder of Neolution, PT Westmoreland who claims to be over 100 years old. Orphan Black has come to a point where there is, really is a man behind the curtain. There is a problem of patriarchy, still fresh and present  in modern world. Although PT tries to control women’s bodies, sisters, Siobhan – Sarah’s mother and Delphine along with Felix and Adele do everything they can to defy him. The time finally had come to show how strong and independed women can be to gain their rights and autonomy.

To defeat the enemy, Cosima Niehaus along with Delphine Cormier, her monitor and partner in life, and Scott, has to explore Neolutionism and work on clones’ advancing diseanse that touches her personally, too. Cosima reflects knowledge in Orphan Black, as well as his own sexuality. The scientist demonstrates that being scientifically gifted is not a graph of being so-called. geek. Cosima and Delphine (Cophine) helped many young women deal with their own sexuality. And if the series can positively affect the change in the public, it can only testify to the greatness and freshness of production.

Sarah Manning and Alison Hendrix, although so very different, they seem to be so similar. Sarah Manning is bravado, which sometimes ends up really bad. Alison seems to be like that too. A woman often makes decisions based on emotions. Both sisters have a problem with the abuse of alcohol. Both have children. Sarah Manning has a daughter, Alison has two adopted children – boy and a girl. In spite of this, Alison seems to be happier, giving the audience a laugh and a respite. Sarah, on the other hand, introduces powerful, often darker emotions.

Sisters show they can fight but they couldn’t handle everything without help of Delphine Cormier, Siobhan “Mrs. S.” Sadler, Felix Dawkins- Sarah’s brother and Adele, his biological sister. We also cannot forget about Art – police detective.

Delphine Cormier had come a long way into Clone Club to be finally trusted yet there are still some people who don’t truly believe her. But, to be honest, there is nothing to believe in or not believe in anymore. Delphine had been welcomed in clone family for good. Evelyne Brochu, playing the rold of the blonde scientist said: Women can’t only be the person only there to french kiss the hero after he’s won the game or won the war. Women are half of humanity. They’re part of history. Brochu proves that in her role. Delphine’s specialty is immunology, whose heroine devotes essentially all her life. Doctor, whose home country is France, is assigned the role of monitor. Delphine shows viewers the world of science and technology, which is extremely important in Canadian production, but not only, because the viewer has a chance to watch the heroine through the deeper relationship with Cosima that suddenly turns into love.

cophine2

In all its complexity, the image of Delphine’s world, however, creates some coherence. Spectators have the opportunity to watch her: her climbing the ranks of the career and the gradation of feelings that character reveals to the audience season-after-season. She is an employee first and answers before Leekie and then takes his place. Delphine becomes director of the institute and has to make decisions that affect not only her and her relationship with Cosima but also with her lover’s sisters. Delphine Cormier proves in every season of production that she will do everything to be a good boss and an effective caregiver. Despite the discrimination of the Cosima’s sisters, she still tries to do everything for them. The doctor proves to viewers thinking that her relationship with Cosima is ephemeral and not important, that it is an illusion. Delphine also shows that she is a much better boss than her predecessor. Delphine Cormier is the defition of a strong woman who will do anything for love and truth. mrs s ssssSiobhan Sadler keeps her pace with one exception. Not only does she prove the power of women, but also shows how tough and important it is to be a mother. Mrs. S adpoted Sarah and Felix when they were kids, had to handle all their behaviours, then Sarah’s dissapearens. She had to take care of Kira, Sarah’s daughter. But she did all of it in the name of love. Siobhan is the shadow of her family through all seasons of production. A woman cares for their well-being and takes care of them. Even when it comes to tragedy and the woman loses her mother who turned out to be a clone original – she still stands with her loved ones. Siobhan along with Felix, Delphine and Adele, destroy the Neolution. Siobhan, even for the price of her life, will not let their chickens to be killed. She sacrifises herself which is one of the most powerful, most heartbreaking scenes in Orphan Black.

Tatiana Maslany said once: I feel so lucky to be in a show that puts women at the center. And this is true. Production proves that women can be strong and fight for what’s good for them. As Felix said in episode eight, season five – To galaxy of women!

Ten TV and Movie Women Who Inspire Me

19th of July, 2017

official

Who run the world? Girls! That’s how a known singer used to sing. And thank God media listen and started creating evolving, important roles for women who now are heroines, scientists, saviors and many more. Situation with women in television is getting better. Hopefully, it’s gonna improve even more.

I present you my own, personal list of brave women from television and cinema who inspire me or inspired me in my teenage/adult life. It is amazing thing that fictional characters can positively influence people’s lives.

1. Delphine Cormier

Orphan Black

The female scientist from amazing Canadian TV show Orphan Black not only shows us that “science” field is not only for men, but also that love is love, no matter who you love – woman or a man. Delphine is smart, very dedicated to her work, brave with brilliant mind. She can even take a bullet for people she loves. She believes in science, not career. She can sacrifice a lot and fight like a tiger. That’s why I admire her character. Plus she is a great boss.

2. Claire Underwood

kk9fvmzif5yfncgb70xg (1)

She’s not perfect. Nobody is. I could even go further – Claire is not the purest woman in the “presidency” world. But she showed me that if you’re strong enough, you can achieve anything you want. You shouldn’t care about what other people think or say. You should always be calm and talk peacefully, because then you will annoy your opponets even more and make them talk very silly things. It’s hard for people who are extravertics, but it’s possible!

3. Aurora Luft

X-Co-310-Aurora-Faber-2

Aurora Luft is a character from Canadian-Hungarian TV show X Company.  She is incredibly brilliant, speaks English, German and French. Add to that, she has amazing ability to melt into the crowd. Her alter ego – Helena Baeur, steals information from Nazi so then Aurora and the group could use it. Aurora is also amazingly skilled with using a knife. She can kill bad people in a matter of second. But the best thing about her is that she is in charge of the group of spies – all men. They all treat her equally, they think she’s an excellent leader and very smart woman. Aurora gives them the same. That’s what I value the most in her character.

4. Siobhan Sadler

orphanblacks02e022

“Everyone’s mom” from Orphan Black showed me how much of a hard work you have to put to be a good mom. Sometimes you need to fight very bad people to protect your family. That’s what she does. She also has to handle her foster kids’ behaviours, which is not easy thing to do. But Siobhan handles this just great. Thanks to her I know that moms are the most hard working human beings.

5. Stef & Lena Fosters

abcfamily

I was thinking if I should pick Lena or Stef, but then I decided to pick them both and put in one number. They are wives from Freeform TV show The Fosters. Together they are raising five children (four adopted and one born). The Fosters is amazing not only because of the great cast. Stef and Lena show viewers, that being gay doesn’ make you bad parent – opposite! They wanted children no matter what, they make mistakes, but they can always cope. Their sons and daughters love them and know they can talk to thme about everything.

6. Phoebe Halliwell

7x18-Phoebe

Thanks to her character from Charmed I fell in love with martial arts. Phoebe taught me that not only boys can do that, girls too! Phoebe is strong, independent and funny. She was very bad teenager, but she understood her mistakes and reunited with her sisters. We also can see amazing sister/women power in Charmed. They fight the most dangerous demons with her powers, but even with powers, they would be useless if not their amazing connection they have.

7. Lisbeth Salander

19285374

Lisbeth Salander is anti-social, rude and  dangerous. But somehow she can teach us, that no matter what, you should fight for yourself and for your autonomy. She had the worst childhood, but she survived. Then she was raped by the person who should help her – her social worker. But she survived, she got her revenge and it made her even stronger. I think that’s why she is on my list – for her will of survival.

8. Snow White

103MoreIsolated

Snow White from Once Upon a Time where the creators made female princesses the real fighters! One of them was Snow White. I value her because of her strenght and so much love. She was the one who fought for the Prince Charming. She didn’t wait for him in some tower, no. She took all risk she could. Her character was an incredible addition to the show.

9. Lisa Cuddy

40927_story__house-lisa-edelstein-as-dr-lisa-cuddy-4

Lisa Cuddy, the character from House, M.D was the first female who became a Dean in America under 35 years old. She showed me back in the day, me 15 years old teenager, that woman can be a great boss and have a family in the same time. Throughout the years, I finished watching House, M.D. but I would still remember about her power, wisdom and cheekiness. Especially in taking charge of House.

10. Trinity

trinity_the_matrix-11351

Her and Phoebe Halliwell were my first tv show heroines who changed my perspectives. When I saw Martix for the first time, I had birthday. Then I saw Trinity on the screen and thought – Wow! She’s a woman and she can be in the team with men, be as smart and strong as them! I need to admit, I had a crush on Trinity back in the day. She was this brave woman and I wanted to be just like her!

I hope you will like my list. All those movies and TV shows I highly recommend!

Who is Delphine Cormier? Theories About The Character From “Orphan Black”

18th of April, 2016

OrphanBlack309_1213

The last, 5th season of science-fiction futuristic tv show Orphan Black will air on 10th of June 2017 on BBC America. The picture about clone sisters and new science called Neolution is a huge success all over the world. Tatiana Maslany, an Emmy awarded actress who is behind all clones, is unbelievable talented. She created more than twenty completely different characters. The only thing that’s the same is their face.

The final battle will be played out between five main sisters: Sarah Manning, Cosima Niehaus, Alison Hendrix, Helena and evil one – Rachel Duncan. We will also have a chance to probably see Krystal Goderitch who was the one that actually saved Delphine Cormier – the second main character (after all clones) in Orphan Black.

Before I go to the theories, let’s go back to the last episode of season 4. MK is back to sestras, because she got sick too. She’s trying to help all of them again. Donnie got out from prison.ob410_2983 Along with Alison, they can’t stand living like they do so they decide to leave for holidays. Unfortunately it looks like they can’t – Evie Cho’s guy tries to kill them, but suddenly out of nowhere Helena saves the day (again). All three of them go to the shelter Ukrainian clone built. In the same time, Rachel exchanges the places with Cosima – she comes back to destroy Evie Cho and Cosima goes to the island to find the cure along with Susan. The cure is found, Rachel messes with sisters again and tries to continue Neolution science. Cosima is cut off by Susan. The medicine is taken away from her. Sarah decides to go and help Cosima. Rachel also comes back to the island,  stabbing Susan whilob410e Cosima and Charlotte escape from the mansion. There is the moment everybody was waiting for – they are found by The Messanger and brought to the camp where Delphine is (we find out it was detective Duko who shot her but Van Lier – Evie Cho’s helper – rescued her). That was the most beautiful moment in the tv series. Delphine has to help Cosima, whom is slipping away. French doctor cannot believe Cosima found the cure. In tob410_3243he same time she asks her lover not to tell anyone about it. Season 4 ends with Sarah escaping Rachel’s claws. But everything can go all worse and well… that’s how it is. Sarah calls Mrs. S. who cannot talk to her, because Ferdinand, who is with her and Kira, takes the phone away.

First questions that appear in my head – if Rachel has all Neolution in her claws, does that mean she wants Kira in exchange for Sarah’s life? Or maybe she’s blackmailing them (Ferdinand will shoot Kira and Siobhan if Sarah Manning doesn’t come back to Rachel?) We will all find out very soon.

The real question is that is with me all the time – who is Delphine Cormier? TherOrphanBlack310_2826e is no doubt that she is the most mysterious character from the show. Who know me knows that she is my favourite character played by Evelyne Brochu. But wheter someone likes her or not, we cannot avoid the fact that all she had done since the first season, she did for Cosima and sisters. After her lover found out Delphine was her monitor, French didn’t do anything on purpose to hurt her. That’s the fact.

After Delphine dissapeared, Cosima was in a very bad condition – not only physical, but also emotional. When Krystal tells Felix she saw Delphine got shot, but then was rescued, Cosima couldn’t believe in it. Then they met on the island. What happens there?

When I look and analyze characters I can say that we don’t know anything about Delphine’s past. How did she get involved in Neolutiovan liern? Is she really from Lille? Who are her parents? Were they scientists too? Is that how she met Aldous Leekie? This is were my theories start. Delphine was shot by detective Duko and then saved by Van Lier. Let’s say again – Ian Van Lier was serving Evie Cho who hated clones. Then why did Ian save Delphine who was so involved in clones’ lives? Of course she was brilliant, but that made her a threat even more – she knew too much. Then why did Van Lier save her?

In season 4th finale where Krystal meets Delphine who is shot in the Dyad parcade, Van Lier appears and takes her somewhere. As we find out later – she is on the island. When Sarah Manning dressed up as Krystal tries to find out what really happened, she asks Ian why did he save Delphine? He then says he was told to. But not by Evie Cho, but someone more important. Who then? Did he mean Westmoreland? If so, why did inventor of Neolution saved Delphine who hates that futuristic science?

the messanger

The scene on the left gave me some tips. We see The Messanger (a man connected to Westmoreland) and Delphine who is operated. It looks like they know each other. I’m not sure about Delphine, but surely him. Does that mean he knew Westmoreland was going to save French doctor? But again – why? Why did Westmoreland along with The Messanger bother to save brilliant doctor who knew too much about everything?

More answers we get in the scene of them talking. The man tells Delphine he is not happy about that. He definitely means legendary P.T. Westmoreland.

Delphine: What am I supposed to do? What does he have to say about this?

The Messanger: He’s not happy about any of this.
convo
Delphine: Of course. Altruism poses a distinct challenge to the evolutionist.

The Messanger: His altruism saved you.

Delphine: That wasn’t what it was.

The Messanger: You won’t be allowed to stay with her.

Delphine. I know. But she’s my patient. So if you’ll please excuse us…

What did he mean by His altruism saved you? And the most important question – why? If Westmoreland is Neolutionist, this probably means he’s gonna support Rachel. Delphine hated that, so why did he save her? In my opinion Delphine is related to Wesmoreland. That’s why she’s talking so freely about him. That’s why he saved her. Maybe she didn’t really know her roots, but I think she may be connected to him. The same thing is with saving Cosima and Charlotte. They didn’t have to save them. Susan, then Rachel took the cure (thank God Cosima took it back before she escaped). Both, woman and a girl, were sick which means weak. And how exactly The Messanger y648know where they were? Maybe it was Delphine who asked Westmoreland to save them in order for her to keep helping him?

What if we don’t know that, but Delphine has more power in Orphan Black than we think she had? Maybe more than she thought she has? Another thing that speaks for my agruments is the book who is going to be released around August 2017. It’s gonna contain all secret files of Dr. Delphine Cormier. It will tell us more about clones but most importantly – more about the character, personality and past of Delphine. This along with the season finale might completely shock us. And, as far as I know amazing creators of Orphan Black (Graeme Manson and John Fawcett) – it’s gonna happen.

Another thing is the new trtumblr_onzyfon0mi1vo44vfo6_r1_400ailers of season finale. Creators gave us a lot and thank you for that! In the first one we see Delphine in the dress and Cosima in the tux suit. Are they going to meet Westmoreland? I think they might. Especially that in the next trailer Delphine says to Cosima: This place is the heart of Neolution.

I know they are haters and lovers of Delphine Cormier. I am definitely team Cophine and I’m not ashamed of that. But sides of the coin cannot deny:  she is very important character and soon we will see if my theories are correct. Or maybe I am wrong? What do you think?

Season finale of Orphan Black starts June 10th on BBC America.

10 Best TV Shows By Me Ranked

11th of March, 2017

Everybody has that kind of list whether it’s about movies, books, music or – as in my post – tv shows. I’m not gonna lie. I think it’s gonna be really hard to pick, because  I’m a huge tv show geek. But well, I’ll do my best and I will try to extract the best of what I’ve watched. All positions have different genre, style and length. But hey, maybe I will inspire someone to watch something awesome.

10. Once Upon A Time

once_upon_a_time_poster9

I fell in love with this tv show about two years ago and I haven’t stopped loving it since then. Canadian production by Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis (the creators of Lost) surprises us with fresh vision of well known fairy tale characters – Snow White, Prince Charming or Evil Queen. Everything starts with Emma Swan – lost, 28 years old orphan, who works as a bounty hunter in Boston. One day on her birthday Emma comes back to her flat and she meets a boy who claims to know Emma. Henry (boy’s name) turns out to be her biological son whom she abandoned ten years ago. Henry claims to live in Storybrooke in Maine – the small town under the curse of time. All of the people there forgot they are the characters from fairy tales. Henry tells Emma that she’s the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming and she is the only one who can remove the spell thrown by Evil Queen (who, by the way, is the adoptive mother). Emma doesn’t believe him at first, but then, after coming to Storybrooke to take Henry back, weird things happen.

Amazing cast (such as Jennifer Morrison, Lana Parilla, Ginnifer Goodwin etc.) only make you watch it more. Reality and magic world seem to be connected in some way – I think this is the best way to explain a child how this works.

9. Full House

02-full-house-reunion-netflix.w1200.h630

TV show made by Jeff Franklin knows almost everybody. First episode of the classic already production aired in 1987. My mom loved that show. 22 years later I started watching it and well, it had to be on my list. Full House tells a story of a dad who recently lost his wife. Danny is forced to raise three daughters – DJ, Stephanie and little Michelle, by himself. The man asks for help from his best goofy friend Joey and his brother-in-law musician Jessie. All three of them try to be perfect parents for the girls who have typical girly problems.

What’s the best in this sitcom is the plot. Everybody has daily problems which seem to be huge in one day, but become past in the next one. Plus the cast – Bob Saget, Dave Coulier, John Stamos, Lori Loughlin, Olsen twins, Candace Cameron Bure and Jodie Sweetin. And, of course, we can’t forget about Andrea Barber in the role of always annoying Kimmy Gibler.

8. The Fosters

Cast-The-Fosters-817x404_c

This is the freeform production everybody has to watch. At least one episode. I recommend it especially for people who have objections about homosexual people. TV show is about lesbian couple – Stef and Lena, who, except Stef’s biological son Brandon, raise four other children – Jesus, Marianna, Callie and Jude. All of the kids have their own problems along with their parents. All of them go to charter school in San Diego  where Lena is vice headmaster. And all of children come from different families so they all have different, usually very hard experiences.

In my opinion, The Fosters is for everybody. The best cast (Teri Polo, Maia Mitchell, Sheri Saum, Noah Centineo etc.) only makes you watch another episode.

7. Lost Girl

Cast-Main_Season_2.jpg

Paranormal. Surprising. AWESOME. Lost Girl tells us the story of Bo Dennis – half human, half succubus (she needs to be fed by human energy), who struggles with her identity till she meets Kenzi – another lost although human  girl. At first scared, Kenzi starts to like Bo and they both decide to open detective agency for Fae (the kind of beings like Bo).  On the way, Bo needs to decide whether she joins Faes or constatly helps people. The woman tries to do both things. She and Kenzi meet Dyson (shapeshifter), Hale (siren), beuatiful doctor Lauren (human), Tamsin (Valkarie) and Trick – the owner of Dal, legendary Fae pub. All of them quickly become friends. In the same time, Bo falls in love with Dyson and Lauren on change. The team has to solve mysteries and save Faes and people.

I think I like this show, because it was amazing plot and it’s very very unexpecting and surprising.

6. X Company

qr-9hhqsj_o-market_maxres

X Company tells us the story of five people who are trained and prepared to serve during the World War II as secret agents for the Canadian  facility in Ontario. After the training they are supposed to be sent to the field and complete different missions. It is a spy thriller series, created by Mark Ellis and Stephanie Morgenstern. Aurora Luft. Alfred Graves. Neil Mackay. Harry James. Tom Cummings. Five people and they have one target – sabotage of as many Nazi’s plans of destroying the world as they all can do. Spies take the orders from Duncan Sinclair, the leader of Camp X in Ontario. They communicate each other by Morse code through the stations with iambic paddle. The master of it is Harry James, the youngest of all. The leader of the group is Aurora Luft – half Jewish half German young woman. She was journalist at the time when Germans took France. She immidiately organizes a group of Resistance fighters. She knows she’s not gonna let Germans take her land just like that.

To be honest, watching “X Company” was really personal for me. First thing is that I am Polish. As we all know, Poland was kicked down, beaten all the time, people from Poland were in concentration camps, they were executed. So watching this producion made me realize, made me appreaciate one more time what people from the past did for our future. You should definitely watch it!

5. House, M.D.

house.jpg

Gregory House is, I think, the most famous doctor in the world. Even if someone didn’t watch it, probably heard about this cynical, mean to women and in general human beings doctor. I am feminist, but somehow this one guy still rocks for me. Dr.House (Hugh Laurie) works in Pricetown Plainsboro Teaching Hospital led by Lisa Cuddy (amazing Lisa Edelstein). Gregory creates a special team containing cynical Eric Foreman (Omar Epps), Robert Chase (Jesse Spencer) and Allison Cameron (Jennifer Morrison). All of them try to solve the most horrible and dangerous cases. In the same time, every character struggles with their own problems. House has his old, best friend James Wilson who helps him with everything.

Even if you don’t like medical movies or tv shows, believe me – you will like this.

4. Charmed

Charmed Season 2 Header.png

I have to confess – Charmed was my best tv show in my teenage years. I was obssesed with this show and I couldn’t stop watching it. I still like to come back to this and watch it from time to time, thinking about good old days.

Three sisters – Prue, Piper and Phoebe, live in their house in San Francisco, leading pretty stable life. The youngest, Phoebe, is coming back from her journey in New York, but Prue (the oldest) doesn’t like it too much. In the night Phoebe goes to the attic where she finds old book – The Book of Shadows. She reads the spell from the front page and forgets about it.

It turns out the next day that each sister got superpower – Prue can move things with her mind, Piper freezes time and Phoebe can  tell the future by touching someone. All of them are scared, but decide to go for it. They gain more and more power and become The Power of Three, the most powerful witches in the world. The girls fight with evil demons and protect the world. They always can count on the help of their ghost of grandma or mom.

Charmed always makes me smile, because this is this kind of show you watch when you have bad day and suddenly you are in completely different world.

3. Raising Hope

4948.jpg

You have a fight, you have a bad mood and you need something that’ll make you happy – Raising Hope! At first I thought it’s gonna be stupid show. And sure, it is silly sometimes, but hello, that’s how people are!

Jimmy, 23 years old man lives with their parents – Burt and Virgina (they became parents in the very early age) and his greatgrandma Maw Maw who struggles with Alzeiheimer. The family is poor – Virginia works as a maid and Burt along with his son clean pools and do gardening jobs. Everything changes when Jimmy rescues stranger girl Lucy and spends night with her. Lucy turns out to be a serial murderer, but it’s not a problem for Virginia who knocks her out with TV. The girl ends up in the jail, but that’s not the end – she is pregnant! Jimmy has to take care of a little girl, his baby, because Lucy is about to be executed.

Along with Hope (the name of the girl), Jimmy starts to learn how it’s like to be a parent. Virginia and Burt help his son as much as they can. Jimmy decides to work in the grocery store where he meets his friends – creepy Frank, Barney – his clumsy boss and Sabrina – the girl Jimmy falls in love with at the first sight. Producions tells us about normal daily struggles, but in the same time makes us laugh more than ever!

2. F.R.I.E.N.D.S

23-friends-cover-story-lede.w750.h560.2x

Who knows me knows that I just love this production! The funny life stories of six friends – Rachel, Joey, Monica, Phoebe, Chandler and Ross, will make you laugh no matter what. Sure, sitcom is silly, but that’s how sitcoms are.

I think it’s the best show for students and people who just start their life on their own. Each character has problems like us – they try to find a job, they fall in love and then they break up, they fight among each other and then they have to face each other. All of them have fights with their parents or they don’t even talk to them. Who doesn’t have struggles like that? That’s why it’s so good. Because in the same time, Friends show you us in a funny, light way, that every problem has solution and after one bad day, another good one comes!

1.Orphan Black

Orphan-Black-Season-1-Recap.jpg

And we’re here with the best, in my opinion, show ever – Orphan Black! I need to say that, I have some personal reasons to like it so much because thanks to this show I met my love. But! Even without it, I think this Canadian production by Graeme Manson and John Fawcett deserves the first place. It’s sad that back in Poland it’s so underrated, I don’t even think it aired. Thank God it became a huge success in Canada and America.

I honestly don’t know how to explain the plot, because it’s complicated but I will do my best. Orphan Black begins with the arrival of Sarah back in Toronto. Sarah Manning is an orphan who was raised by Siobhan Sadler (Mrs. S) together with Felix, her foster brother. She is troublemaker, always leaves her daughter Kira and drinks a lot. Sarah waits on the train station and experiances the most awful thing – young woman  commits suicide in front of her. But the weirdest thing is that the stranger looks exactly like…Sarah!

It turns out that the girl along with others who look like her are the experiment of the Dyad Institute – powerful, very dangerous place led by dr. Aldous Leekie. Sarah meets Alison, Cosima, Katja, Rachel and other like her. In the same time they need to deal with the police, Dyad and someone who tries to kill them.

The plot is amazing and full of surprises, but I think for aplaus deserves Tatiana Maslany, Canadian actress who plays the role of ALL of the clones. Maslany won the Emmy for her roles, but I think she needs to be more appreciated. She created over 20 faces and all of them are different from another. Next to her we can see amazing Evelyne Brochu as Delphine (Cosima’s lover), Kristian Bruun, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Jordan Gavaris and many many more. It’s amazing and you need to see that!
